Ben Kelly, Registered Psychologist

I am a Registered Psychologist, with 15 years of experience as a counsellor, and over 10 years of experience as a registered Psychologist.

I have received training in various therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focussed Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing (SE) therapy. In particular, I received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) while employed at Macquarie University’s MindSpot Clinic, and have a particular interest in studying and applying Somatic Experiencing in my practise as a Psychologist. Somatic Experiencing as a therapeutic modality incorporates a focus on both the mind and body to utilise both in enabling an individual to reach their therapeutic goals.

In my practise and work with each client I seek to build a compassionate, respectful therapeutic relationship so that we can work together to explore their experiences, discover meaning in the hardship and challenges that they face or have faced and find what they require, bringing about sustainable growth or acceptance.

In my practise as a Psychologist I have worked and supported people from all backgrounds and age groups, facing various issues and challenges. My experience has ranged, but is not limited to, supporting at risk homeless youth, working with and supporting front line workers (NSW Police officers, NSW Ambulance Services), ADF Veterans, people struggling with various forms of addiction and trauma. I have worked for Non Government services, Mental Health Services, Psychiatric services (both public and private facilities), EAP providers and Macquarie University.

My clinical experience includes (but is not limited to):

  • Mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc)
  • Addiction, substance abuse and associated compulsive behaviours
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-esteem and confidence issues
  • Trauma
  • Loss and grief
  • Personality disorders
  • Divorce and separation
  • Anger management
  • Work related issues
